Welcome to the Department of International Relations at the University of Ulsan. Since it was established in 1991, the Department has provided valuable intellectual opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Many countries and regions in the world now face unprecedented challenges posed by globalization and information revolution. Non?traditional security threats, recurrent economic crises, and the emerging problems of Water, food and epidemic diseases are among the issues testing our understanding of international relations in particular and of the nature of human interactions in general.

Thus, we aim to provide students with a full range of courses about international relations, as well as politics in Korea and in countries around the world, which would enable them to be more informed and learned world citizens. For example, the Department offers not only a number of IR courses such as Introduction to International Relations. Comparative Political Regimes, International Political Economy, Environment and World Politics, Non-Governmental Organizations, International Organizations, East Asian Politics, Sino?American Relations, Inter-Korean Relations, but also numerous language courses and area studies on the United States, China, East Asia, and so forth.

This knowledge of international relations is essential in many professions： for example, businessmen need to have some understanding of the path of domestic and international politics of China, the U.S, or Europe, in order to make their businesses successful. A major in IR trains students in a number of different critical skills that will help them succeed in almost any career. Most of our courses have assignments that develop skills in writing, presentation, and inter-personal communication. Particularly, our Department puts great emphasis on ‘Going Abroad’ programs to make students familiar with foreign culture and civilizations.

Not surprisingly, alumni of our IR majors can be found competent and promising in many pro-fessions and organizations including business, public sectors, academia and journalism Our De-partment will be a launching pad for students’ future success.
